1. What is IVF?
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a type of assisted reproductive technology in which eggs and sperm are mixed outside the human body in a laboratory to create embryos. These embryos are transferred into the uterus, with the hope of implantation and conception. IVF is regarded as one of the best and most preferred fertility treatments for most individuals and couples experiencing reproductive concerns.
2. What are the Steps Involved in IVF?
  • Preliminary Testing & Priming (2-4 weeks)
    Hormonal and baseline fertility tests help design an individualized treatment plan. Priming with estrogen or birth control pills helps prepare the ovaries.
  • Ovarian Stimulation
    Injectable medications are used to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs.
  • Monitoring & Trigger
    Frequent ultrasounds and blood tests help track follicle growth. A “trigger shot” finalizes egg maturation.
  • Egg Retrieval
    A minimally invasive procedure under sedation collects eggs from the ovaries.
  • Fertilization
    This is the main process where eggs are fertilized in the lab using either conventional IVF or ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection).
  • Embryo Transfer
    One or more embryos are transferred into the uterus. If requested by the patient, the remaining embryos are frozen for future use.
  • Embryo Freezing & Pregnancy Test
    Extra viable embryos are preserved. A pregnancy test follows 10–14 days after the transfer.
